November Featured Apprentice: Heather Blevins

Name: Heather Blevins

Trade: Steamfitter

Year: 3rd Year

Hobbies off the jobsite: I love to bake. When I’m not working you’ll most likely find me developing new recipes in the kitchen.

What I like about my apprenticeship: I love a challenge and being an apprentice in the trades means constantly being challenged and learning new things.

Tip or trick I've learned on the job: How to use the 3 4 5 triangle to verify the squareness of my layout.

Go-to tool in my tool bag: My torpedo level.

Something I like about being a member of the GRID Apprentice Connection: I like seeing and reading about other apprentice’s experiences across the different trades, that’s perspective you don’t normally get on the job.

What resources do you utilize outside of the classroom to learn more about your trade?: Journeymen! You can always learn from others, even if it is what not to do. I try to build positive relationships with every Journeyman I work with and still call guys I worked with on my first job for advice from time to time.
