Milwaukee Tool, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), is voluntarily recalling a subset of M18 FUEL™ 12" and 14" Top Handle Chainsaws (category number 2826-20) due to a potential chain brake issue.

  • Affected Serial numbers: Units where the fourth character of the serial number is “A.”
  • The ONLY affected saw is the M18 FUEL™ Top Handle Chainsaw

How can I tell if I have an affected saw?

The affected 2826-20 M18 FUEL™ Top Handle Chainsaws can be distinguished by the fourth serial code letter, ‘A’. Saws with the fourth serial code letter ‘B’ are not affected.

 

How do I find my serial number?

The serial number can be found on the top right corner of the name plate on the saw.

Is it safe to continue using my affected saw?

No, stop using the saw immediately. Return your equipment directly to Milwaukee Tool for repair by utilizing our eService portal or by contacting 833-953-2012 (7:00am to 4:30pm Central Standard Time Monday through Friday). All products with a serial code containing the fourth letter ‘A’ will be repaired free of cost. Saws with the fourth serial code letter ‘B’ are not affected and safe to continue using.


What do I do with my affected tool?

  • Stop using the saw immediately.
  • Arrange for free repair by:
    • Utilizing the eService portal
    • Or by calling 833-953-2012 (7:00am to 4:30pm Central Standard Time Monday through Friday)
  • If your serial number is unreadable, stop using the saw immediately and arrange for free repair.
  • Only the saw should be shipped back for repair. Do not include the cutting system (bar and chain), battery, or charger.

 

How long will the repair take?

These repairs are expected to be completed in 7-10 business days.

Will Milwaukee cover shipping costs?

Yes, Milwaukee Tool will offer free shipping to our repair facilities. Our factory-trained technicians will use genuine Milwaukee parts to repair your saw. Then, your saw will be sent back directly to you—no need to pick it up.

Does this affect any other Milwaukee Tool chainsaws?

No, the only affected saw is the M18 FUEL™ Top Handle Chainsaw. Impacted units can be distinguished by the fourth serial code letter, ‘A’. Saws with the fourth serial code letter ‘B’ are not affected.

Why are you recalling the M18 FUEL™ 12” and 14” Top Handle Chainsaws (cat.no. 2826-20)?

The chain brake may not prevent the chain from moving when the brake is locked. Failure of the brake could pose a laceration risk should the chain be contacted by the operator.
